WE MADE THE TOP FIVE!!! Number three to be exact.
(AOL Editor's pick the top 5 journals each week or so and highlight them on the journals page.)
We hope lots of people will stop by and read about our homeschool (now unschool) life. I know homeschooling sounds strange and backwards to some but as you will see it is really an awesome life. I would also like to mention that a common belief is that most families homeschool for religious reasons. Let me break that myth. There are so many other reasons that families homeschool. For this family religion did not play a factor. As stated in my journal homepage we homeschool because we believe our fundamental purpose as parents is to give our children the ability to be free thinkers and the environment to support it. Our recent decision to unschool is to be able to more effectively reach that goal.
WE ARE DOING THE HAPPY DANCE!! THANKS AOL FOR CHOOSING US!!

Congrats on being in the Top 5 and kudos to you for your "unschooling"(I love that!) endeavors. I think what you are doing is very courageous and no doubt a sometimes difficult task, but one that will pay off to your whole family down the road. The education systems today are pretty much designed to inhibit our children's ability to think critically and think for themselves. Hats off to you for making a difference.
Also, have you ever read any of the books by John Taylor Gatto? He is a former teacher in NYC and has some excellent books which depict his first hand experiences in the ways the schools work to actually "dumb down" the students. His message is a thought provoking one.
Take care,
Rosemarie

Mom! I love it! Congrats on making the top 5. I love your journals...they keep me posted on what you and the younger ones are doing. And more often then not crack me up! It makes me feel so close to home although I am far away! Keep up the awesome work. You are such an amazing teacher, mother and inspiration to all of your children!
Love ya Ra-Ra
I am very happy to see that a homeschooled family made the top five. My husband and I started homeschooling our oldest daughter Caitlin this year and it is quite an experience! When I told some of our family last summer they we where planning on homeschooling our two girls they looked at me like I was insane. My husband's aunt even went as far to say that I was being lazy by not sending Caitlin to school. She said that was just a way to be able to sleep in (Trust me it would be alot easier to just send her to school!) Everyone was worried about Caitlin not having friends but she has tons of friends. I joined a great homeschool group in my area that really uplifts me and makes me feel good about homeschooling. I myself decided to homeschool for religon reasons and I am planning on using a more traditional ciriculum but I think you getting picked is really neat and I hope you the best of luck! Sorry I wrote so much but I really love this!!!
May God Bless You and your family,
Tracy
